Looking at fear from an Ayurvedic perspective, it is viewed as a Vata imbalance. Vata is air and space and is known as the king of the doshas because without it, nothing would happen. Vata moves things in our bodies and in our minds. Really... the Vata dosha, when balanced is amazing!

When it is imbalanced or there is that excess movement within the body and mind, we start to see particular types of discomfort, which can ultimately lead to disease.

A common Vata imbalance or discomfort that we all come across is fear. When the mind is on the move and not in check, it can make it's way down all kinds of rabbit holes, bringing worry, anxiety and fear into our lives. Sometimes our concerns or fears are legitimate, but more often then not, they are all in our heads.

One of my favorite and easy to do exercises to subside that fear is a simple standing balance pose.

Practicing this type of posture helps in the following ways:

1. It forces us to anchor down and find the earth under our standing leg.

2. The mind literally has to search for stillness to help keep balance.

3. It promotes courage, as anytime we practice balancing, there is the chance that we could fall.
