The Benefits of Shatavari

The word shatavari actually means “a woman with one thousand husbands," because  of it's rejuvenating effects on the female reproductive system. Shatavari, these days, is most popularly used during menses for hormone and nervous system support. However, it is also used in instances of infertility, impotence (for men and women), lack of breast milk production, and menopause. 

The herb is part of the asparagus family and holds the qualities of heavy, moist, soft, and cooling. Because Ayurveda promotes the concept of, like-increases-like, this means that this herb and it's qualities can help pacify both Vata and Pitta imbalances: 

  • Strengthening ojas (vitality)

  • Enhancing memory

  • Reducing blood pressure

  • Strengthening the heart

  • Supporting digestive issues, such as ulcers, hyperacidity, and diarrhea.
