What is Pitta? Pitta is one of the three archetypes or energies of Ayurveda. It consists of the elements of fire and water. When Pitta is in excess in our bodies and minds, it can cause feelings of irritation, anger, and perfectionism. When Pitta is balanced within us, we focused, driven, organized, passionate, and intelligent.

That being said, we live in a very Vata and Pitta dominated society, meaning we are always going and doing and there's a lot of pressure to over achieve and succeed. This means, it is crucial for us to pay attention to when we are experiencing these feelings so that we can maintain overall balance and health within our bodies and minds.

When we let our bodies and minds sync with the natural rhythm of the season, in this case summer, we actually become not only more productive, but happier and healthier as well!

In the northern hemisphere, summer is Pitta season as it holds the same qualities as Pitta, hot, sharp. light, and mobile. While we want to ensure we are not over doing it, we can take advantage of this time of year to test our own boundaries by trying new things. In addition, taking action to get things done.

From an Ayurvedic perspective the summer season is for "doing", as the energy of Pitta allows us to be focused and driven. The additional qualities of the fire element gives us that spark we need to take action. After winter or Kapha season, it allows us to shift from a season of planning to a season of putting those plans into action.
