Ayurveda and Yoga for Menstruation

According to Ayurveda, everything is cyclical, including when we menstruate, as our cycles are synced up with the waxing and waning of the moon, which happens around every 28 days.


When our bodies and minds are well taken care of and we are not on any type of birth control, we will menstruate around the new moon and ovulate around the full moon.

Finding this rhythm with our bodies and nature isn’t just a neat coincidence, it can actually help reduce some of the pain and discomfort that often comes with our moon.


For additional support and relief during this time, try out these four yoga postures.

Will help relieve tension and lower back pain.

Supine Twist

Twists are known for their ability to detoxify the organs. As our moon cycle is a time to clear out and renew, this gentle twist is a great way to ensure that everything continues move. In addition, the stretch will help bring relief to the lower back and hips.

Supine Pigeon Pose

While we often equate our moon cycles pain being in our abdomen, a number of women experience pain in their lower back and hips. This gentle hip opener will help bring some relief to the back body.

Simply lying down with a heavier blanket on the belly will help bring warmth, comfort, and a general sense of grounding to the body and mind.
